M42 engines are easier to play with. Chip, exhaust and intake mods are more responsive and noticeable. This is because of OBDI.
BMW seem to have "wringed-out" all they can for power out of the M44 engines, but I can feel the difference in the higher torque.
Unfortunately, we (Stateside) don't get the cool 4 cylinders from Europe like he 2.0L turbodiesel, not even te torquey 1.6L.
