I'm also interested. Both size & how much they lower the car.
Some sort of part# (stamped on the end of the coil) would be great also.

I'm confused about how the different shocks and springs offered by various manufacturers measure up against each other.
So i've decided to make a list of struts/shocks/springs/coilovers and their data in an effort to clear this up.

Gathered from RealOEM.com:

Standard (00-00)
Front Shock: 31311091773 / 31311091774
Front Spring:
Rear Shock: 33521091629
Rear Spring:

M-technik (S704A) (??-??)
Front Shock: 31311090715 / 31311090716
Front Spring:
Rear Shock: 33521091630
Rear Spring:

NATIONAL VERSION EASTERN EUROPE (L816A) or Poor Road Package (S815A) (??-??)
Front Shock: 31311091623 / 31311091624
Front Spring:
Rear Shock: 33521091999
Rear Spring:
Uses standard sway bars & bushings?
Uses additional spacers & different upper spring pad rear.

Who makes and what size sway bars should I use?
  • BMW stock Sway Bar Front 25mm: 31351091632 Rear 14mm: 33551091621
  • BMW M-technik Sway Bar Front 26mm: 31351091308 Rear 16mm: 33551090317
  • H&R Front Sway Bar - E36 (not M3) 28mm
  • H&R Rear Sway Bar - E36 318ti 18mm
  • Turner Motorsport E36 325i/328i/M3 Front Sway Bar 30mm?
  • Racing Dynamics?
  • AC Schnitzer(used to, not sure if it still made)

Eibach makes (made?) Performance Stabilizer Bars for the e30/e36 sedan, coupe and cabrio + M3.
I guess the e36 sedan front can be used for the compact but the e30/36 rear probably won't?

Does anyone know how the Standard, M-technik & Poor Road Struts/Shocks/Springs differ from each other?
Height, damping and spring obviously, but how exactly is this achieved and how much do they differ?
Most manufacturers have struts/shocks that support all engine models, others distinguish between 316Ti/318Ti & 323Ti/318TDS, because of the engine weight?
Some have struts/shocks that support both Standard & M-technik, that is right?
Would that mean you could have M-technik shocks with a normal sway bar and vice versa?

I could not find any part# for coil springs from RealOEM.com.
There is however mention of a white and red rear coil spring, which have different lower spring pads.

Both the Standard and M-technik sway bars have identical geometry, and differ only in diameter?
