I literally just fixed this on mine this week. It's just a bad design and it rusts out. Mine ripped out just driving down the road a month ago. Your field excursion might have been the final straw, but it's been rusting away for years.

I just bought the new part straight from the dealer. My old mount was literally filled up with mud. The old mount has a little opening right in the wheel well and it can just fill up with water and debris and just sit there rusting away.

An air hammer with a chisel blade makes quick work of removing it. That plus a grinding wheel on a angle grinder and Dremel cleans it up. Not a lot of room for an angle grinder in there though.

I used my Northern Tool flux core welder and it seemed to work well.
