It ended up costing me $600 at a local BMW specialist (German Auto in SLO, CA -- not a factory dealer). I probably could have bitched and pushed the price down, because the guy who did the work was a junior technician and the guy who I spoke to about the work when I brought it in had already completed two swaps and likely could have completed the work in fewer shop hours. But they've been good to me working on a couple other BMW cars I own so I let it go.

I would definitely recommend buying a crashed/running car -- there are a lot of parts/pieces that you'll forget to grab from a junkyard.
