I live on a dead end street so we pretty much all know each other.

My neighbor married a new guy who came from another neigborhood.

I'm always helping him fix things because he isn't real handy and he always returns the favor saying I can borrow his truck any time or call him for heavy lifting. I call in those favors on a regular basis.

It all seemed pretty normal to me, but he told me he was blown away with the people on this street because where he lived before it wasn't like that.

Also, there were some new renters on the street and we never had the sheriff on our street in the 15 years I've been here, but this new guy had them down our street all the time. Naturally none of us wanted anything to do with this guy. He ended up in jail and the woman who remained defaulted on rent so they are gone now.

Anyway, I guess my point is that "community" is a delicate thing and needs to nurtured, but not everybody can be helped either.
