You need to measure the backlash of the gears before the swap, then try to achieve the same amount after swapping the ring gear onto the LSD. You should also check the wear pattern on the teeth. In order to do this correctly, you will need some extra shims which go between the bearing housings and the cast housing. Even BMW needs to shim these to get them right, so no 2 are exactly the same.
Don't touch the pinion gear. If you do you will be in for a rude awakening when you try to get the gears set up. |
