I use a pin to lock the flywheel - the tip is 0.307 diameter and 0.392 in length, the next section is 0.452 in diameter and 1.577 inches in length. The next larger section doesn't matter.

You might get away using a 5/16" drill bit or an 8mm bolt.

I was concerned that I'd be stressing the crankshaft, but I've used it several times now with no ill effects, and I've read accounts of others doing likewise.
