According to Bimmerforums, the weight numbers look like this: S14 = 234 lbs M42 = 220 M44 = 225 M50/S50 = 299 (US Spec) M52/S52 = 308 S50 = 333lbs (Euro spec) According to an internet search, saving 10 pounds is roughly equal to 1HP which would explain why the 2950lb/200HP 318ti feels very similar to the 3350lb/240HP M3/4. If this information is correct, it would also say that you would need an S50/S52 (or a 208HP+ modded M50/M52) to better the performance of the DASC/M44 considering the difference in weight (I have not accounted for differences in coolant capacity/weight and extra weight of the Eaton SC and other accessories either) It also makes the quirky idea of an M42/DASC powered E30/M3 sound a bit more plausible too. |
