The chrome seems fairly thin and brittle along the inside edges where it is peeling, would the traditional sandblasting prep process not strip the chrome? I assume it would leave lines in the finished powder coat from where the chrome was not fully stripped.
Should I worry about the aluminum being pitted in the sandblasting process?

I have also talked to several chroming shops and the general senses is that I will have to go to a specialist shop since the rims are aluminum. The closest shop that I can find is in Houston, a good 3+ hour drive from Austin where I live. It is $55 a wheel just to get them stripped.
