I should explain that my car was a conversion, the engine and gage cluster were from an M3. But the computer was original for the 4cyl. But I don't see why the same approach would not work with a 4cyl car, if a gage cluster with the MPG display has been swapped in. Just jumper the MPG lead from the dash computer to the contact on the gage cluster as described in the detailed instructions above.
