After doing some research on another forum I became aware of the infamous oil pump nut failure.
I guess over time the reverse thread nut back off which causes the sprocket to dislodge and as a result a lost in oil pressure and a damaged engine.
There are several ways to correct this problem and this section details how to (hopefully ) prevent this occurrence by using high temp oil resistant Lock Tite and torquing the nut to OEM specs.
UPDATE: After the secondary timing chain snapped I decided to tack weld the nut onto the oil pump.
