Interesting as my M44 alternator was a bear to get back into the lower bracket and lucky for me, at the time the motor was on a stand. Rubber dead blow mallet convinced the alternator to slip in.

Along with what Sean mentioned, you'll need an allen wrench or socket bit to loosen the belt tensioner to remove the belt. Do check your belt condition when you swap the altenator.
