Yea, when I rebuilt my jeep engine the builder assembled it for me I installed it and he had degreed the cam originally, but after I got it running he fine tuned it and it made a nice gain. (5hp) We did this trying to slide as close as possible to the peak power and still pass emissions testing....

Of course on the M42/M44 engine its hard to say how deep he needs to get to get at the cam drive sprockets.

You might need new cam gears to truly adjust it...
Which I would only do if I was putting in a new cam...
Sometimes it just takes offset keys to get a cam "in".
