What they mean is not really the clear coat (the cars all got a clear coat, no matter if it's an uni or metallic paint), it's just that they didn't put the last wax-coat on the car. In Germany this waxing coat wasn't actually needed because the cars didn't have a long journey to their new owners. They mostly did it for cars that needed to be shipped to seal the paint during the journey

Indeed! It's the first original 323ti that I've heard of in the States.
