actually, it makes a good bit of difference in weight distribution, which is why it's in the trunk for most of the e36 series (not just the Ms). i'd like to do it to. i was looking at the realoem.com/bmw site for the e36 323ti (euro only) for the pieces since they had the battery in the trunk. i never did figure out the full cost of the pieces.

the weight of the battery from the center in the front versus how far it is from center in the rear makes a significant difference on front/rear weight distribution.
