Ya, on the E39s, lore has it that if the jackpads are missing, air pressure coming into the jack hole
and up the B pillar over time causes the headliner to start working it's way loose. It's one of the first things I check when I pick up an older BMW. my 95's headliner was already giving way, so I couldn't check the effect on the E36 ti. My 97 headliner is intact, so I wasn't going to experiment there...
