I've recently added the Curt Mfg Trailer Hitch and decided to change the Guibo too...glad I did, it was cracked/dry. I did not remove the exhaust or vibration damper. I unbolted the heat shield (4 screws) and slid it as far rearward as possible...I too was tempted to rip it out of the way but resisted that urge successfully. The driveshaft slid back just barely far enough to slide the Guibo out.

The 6 Guibo bolts were not of the same age...the 3 on the trans side were shiny...the 3 on the driveshaft side were rusty. I suspect the engine/trans was removed recently by the previous owner...maybe cooling system work?
