It is really about simplifying the entire spark system. You no longer have to maintain expensive to replace plug wires. The shorter distance between the coil and the plug could also result in slightly less energy drop on the spark due to less resistance. You can also replace individual coils as they go bad instead of having to replace the entire coil pack.


It also allows for a lot more room in the engine bay to be able to do a side mounted turbo. Not a huge horsepower thing, but it definitely has its advantages.
