Ok so today I look down by my petals and see a strange switch hanging down right behind them. Upon further inspection I found a wire under the floor mat that has some kind of output/ plug thingy on it (no I know absolutely nothing about electronics). Since my dad is pretty crazy about me not having a fast car is there any way that this is some kind of governor? My car will shift at redline in sport mode so its obviously not a rev limiter and according to my speedo Ive gone over 100 mph so I dont think it limits top speed. Could it be some kind of acceleration governor? If not a governor (and I know that Im probably being paranoid) what is it? Sorry about the pics, they are from my phone. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 03-20-2007, 09:17 PM | #2 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Flip the switch then try and start your car? __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 03-20-2007, 09:22 PM | #3 | doesn't care about you. They are usually hidden under the floor mat. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 03-20-2007, 09:23 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | possible immobiliser cut-out. i had a similar switch, but those types of switches are universal, so it could be for anything.. __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! Tell us more about your car -especially if it has any aftermarket mods. 2) The wires w/ a plug. Given that they're red-black-green perhaps someone here could figure out what that plug could possibly be. Oh - and NO, it is not a governor. (however, for you to ask that question - are you implying that your dad may have done something to the car to keep you from driving over a certain speed? If you think your dad has made some changes to the car, perhaps you should be asking him about this). | | | 03-20-2007, 09:41 PM | #7 | doesn't care about you. Pull it out, nobody uses them anyways. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 03-20-2007, 10:02 PM | #8 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT That's probably the self destruct switch. I thought the SDS was a red button under a clear, flip-up cover, and is generally mounted on the center console near the window buttons, or on the top of the dash. Ill take a look at the colors later. And asking him would be pointless, he lies. Quote: Originally Posted by DustenT It's an alarm valet switch. It LOOKS like a valet switch, if it doesn't do anything just tuck it under the dash and forget about it. What kind of alarm does your car have? __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 03-21-2007, 12:40 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | I swapped in a stock BMW alarm from a 318is when I bought it. Im not sure if it does anything because Ive never flipped the switch, just in case it is the self destruct switch... __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 03-21-2007, 12:49 AM | #12 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Flip the switch, or ban!
