I ordered a new one and installed it before the bimmer went to storage for the winter, but when I picked it up today - Guess what's back! The car shows NO signs of any problems. It desperately needs an oil change, but this wouldn't cause a CPS reading would it? | | | 03-20-2008, 01:09 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | no, if anything just an oil presssure light on the dash cps sensor (which engine?) and crank/flywheel sensor can do this on-off type thing .. ive seen it before. Normally on non BMW sensors though. __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! Assuming that you can reach it, I would try disconnecting and reconnecting the sensor's electrical connector. It might have corroded while it sat in storage. Then clear the code and see if the CEL comes back on. If you can't reach the connector without taking off the intake manifold, I might be tempted to replace it while everything is apart. I don't remember it being all that expensive. | | | 03-21-2008, 12:12 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 130 | I had it reset last night and it came right back on. I'll be trying to yank it out once we get decent weather on a weekend - UGH. So annoyed since I JUST changed it. I just really wonder about the accuracy of the AutoZone scanners. . . | | | 03-21-2008, 01:01 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Frederick Maryland USA Posts: 45 | I bought myself a code reader several years ago. It has saved me alot of trouble and money letting me do the simple fixes (like the cam position sensor) on a couple of different cars. I'd bet AutoZone scanners are accurate, but the code only tells you that there is a problem with that circuit, not necessarily with the sensor itself. Taking your car to them doesn't easily let you diagnose the problem as easily as you could with your own tool. | | | 03-21-2008, 01:36 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2003 Location: Toledo, Ohio Posts: 130 | Ugh. I seriously HATE electrical diagnosis. Cars need to be carb'd again. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
