I have a chance to pick one up on the cheap.......really really CHEAP . So please advise if it's worth it or not. It is an E36 chassis. Anything that fits in an E36 drops right in. It's funny how people tell me that an 3.0 liter has to be shoehorned in to make it fit. I think the aluminum 2.8 is a good choice. Keep in mind, I would recommend replacing the tranny and driveshaft too. Then you will eventually need to swap out the diff. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-04-2005, 09:27 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Malden, MA Posts: 672 | Thanks guys! However I did some research with unclear results. What I came up with is that it seems that the M52TU engine was used in E36 325 and 328, but then it also carried over to some of the early E46 models with some slight changes. The engine I considering purchasing is being sold to me as a complete engine with a blown head gasket, yet rebuildable for only $200! I just wanted to get an idea of what kinda trouble I was looking at getting myself into. BTW, I own a 98 318ti M package w/auto tranny, if that would help. | | | 08-04-2005, 10:15 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | i've got an auto, i am considering the manual convo and 2.5 swap next year..... __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 08-05-2005, 12:30 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | From http://www.koalamotorsport.com/tech-1.asp M50TU 2.0, 2.3 or 2.5 litre 6 cylinder dual overhead cam, variable intake (VaNoS) M52TU 2.5 and 3.0 litre 6 cylinder dual overhead cam, dual VaNoS __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-05-2005, 12:42 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | SOunds very tuneable.... I'm going to pick up the engine this weekend and see how big of a migrane it's going to be to swap this thing. It will more than likely end up being my winter project. BUMP to all you guys for helping me out. Although I wonder if they sell forced induction for that engine. Might be something worth loooking into. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
