Default M52tu

Hi, I'm somewhat new to the forum, But I was curious to ask this question.........Would anybody know if a M52TU engine would fit into our cars? I have a chance to pick one up on the cheap.......really really CHEAP . So please advise if it's worth it or not.

Thanks

I've never heard of an M52TU, so I'm not sure.

Pretty much any engine will fit. It is an E36 chassis. Anything that fits in an E36 drops right in. It's funny how people tell me that an 3.0 liter has to be shoehorned in to make it fit. I think the aluminum 2.8 is a good choice. Keep in mind, I would recommend replacing the tranny and driveshaft too. Then you will eventually need to swap out the diff.

Thanks guys! However I did some research with unclear results. What I came up with is that it seems that the M52TU engine was used in E36 325 and 328, but then it also carried over to some of the early E46 models with some slight changes. The engine I considering purchasing is being sold to me as a complete engine with a blown head gasket, yet rebuildable for only $200! I just wanted to get an idea of what kinda trouble I was looking at getting myself into. BTW, I own a 98 318ti M package w/auto tranny, if that would help.

You're in for some headaches if the engine you want to use is a throttle by wire engine from an E46 model car.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm going to pick up the engine this weekend and see how big of a migrane it's going to be to swap this thing. It will more than likely end up being my winter project. BUMP to all you guys for helping me out. Although I wonder if they sell forced induction for that engine. Might be something worth loooking into.
