When I recently started my car in the cold, it barely kicked over and the radio shows "code" so that's why I think it's the battery. Anyway, it looks pretty simple to swap but we all know nothing is too simple for BMW. So, how do I do this myself? Thanks. | | | 01-05-2014, 06:32 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Battery is very simple. I've been buying my batteries from Interstate dealers. Just be sure it's made for that vehicle and buy the higher amp model. There are 2 from what I remember. You will get another 5 years without worry. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-05-2014, 09:02 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | when you uninstall the old battery, disconnect your negative wire first, and when you install the new one connect the positive wire first. it's not that important but it will decrease the chances of accidentally making it arc | | | 01-05-2014, 09:05 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | And you may have to reset your windows. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-06-2014, 01:21 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | If you have a stock radio be sure you know its code number because you have enter it into the radio to get it to play again anytime power is disconnected from the radio. | | | 01-06-2014, 04:05 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Sep 2013 Location: Riverside, CA Posts: 82 | Terminal grease helps too! | | | 01-06-2014, 02:04 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Don't forget the vent tube! | | | 01-06-2014, 02:14 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Waldorf, MD Posts: 32 | What and where is the vent tube? | | | 01-06-2014, 06:06 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Sorry, strike that. The stock 'ti battery is up front. If you relocate it to the cargo area it only then should have a vent tube. Hmmm. The DIY doesn't mention one. It goes through the cover and down between the firewall and the battery. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
