I found a very good 1992 non-VANOS engine. Is there a big differece betwin VANOS and non-VANOS engines. I ask this because the non-VANOS one that I have found is in preatty good shape (italien doctors car as about 130.000 km) and I can get it really cheap. Any other tips and things to look out for are really welcomed. Thanks!! | | | 01-14-2006, 02:15 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | Anyone?! | | | 01-14-2006, 03:44 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by andrei Anyone?! | The weekends are generally slow around here. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-19-2006, 11:00 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | UP!!! | | | 01-20-2006, 12:37 AM | #5 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! They are boulth OBD I cars so I think that this won't be an issue. The engine is a pre VANOS engine and build date is 9/1991. | | | 01-05-2007, 02:52 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Golden, CO Posts: 283 | i have been wondering the same thing. does an m50 engine without a VANOS a big deal if going into a 95 ti? __________________ e46 325 brake upgrade, Dinan engine chip, UUC SS brake lines, UCC rotors, m68 17in wheels, Conti extreme contacts, Billstein sport shocks, H&R springs, M3 shock mounts, B&B triflow exhaust, K&N cone filter, Magnecor 8.5 wires, Meyle control arms with caster , Hawk ceramic pads, Understeer M3 SSK, UUC SS clutch line, 320 trans mounts. | | | 01-05-2007, 03:59 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | No problems with non-Vanos in an OBDI car. Get EVERYTHING you can- wiring harness, accessories, radiator, MAF, airbox, PS lines, A/C lines, brackets, etc. I will never do another engine swap without a whole parts car. The Vanos and non-Vanos engines are very, very similar. Supposedly, the non-Vanos engine is the engine of choice for FI, and the Vanos is the choice for people that want to upgrade cams to M3 (they won't work in non-Vanos.) | | | 01-05-2007, 06:39 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Check with Campiar about using an early vintage M50- he had EWS issues but think he got them sorted out. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 01-05-2007, 08:09 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | Quote: Originally Posted by Watchmyradical i have been wondering the same thing. does an m50 engine without a VANOS a big deal if going into a 95 ti? | I'm going with a single vanos M50B25 in the Club Sport. Earlier computers had no EWS. | | | 01-05-2007, 06:20 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Golden, CO Posts: 283 | dont you run into a problem then since the ti has ews and the new motor / ECU won't? __________________ e46 325 brake upgrade, Dinan engine chip, UUC SS brake lines, UCC rotors, m68 17in wheels, Conti extreme contacts, Billstein sport shocks, H&R springs, M3 shock mounts, B&B triflow exhaust, K&N cone filter, Magnecor 8.5 wires, Meyle control arms with caster , Hawk ceramic pads, Understeer M3 SSK, UUC SS clutch line, 320 trans mounts. | | | 01-05-2007, 06:46 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Charlottesville, VA Posts: 234 | Not really. The new motor doesn't care as long as it doesn't have EWS in the DME. EWS1 can be disabled with a chip if you have it in your DME. EWS2 must be realligned. You may have to disconnect something or cut some wire if your car does have EWS and the DME does not, but I haven't gotten there yet. Anybody? -Paul | | | 01-06-2007, 10:50 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Iasi, Romania Posts: 101 | Can I swap an M50 engine with gear box and drive shaft from an 1993 525i. I can get a whole car really cheap and I was wondering if I can get it to fit the TI. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
