Well, here we go with my LC2 (grand national) swap. I have been mostly collecting supporting parts for the ti, like suspension, Rear diff and so on. I have added pics of some different stages of engine removal, but for those of you who done a swap, this will be nothing new. I also threw in a pic of my engine that will find its way betewen the fenders of this little cali top. | | | 04-24-2012, 12:08 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: SW Florida Posts: 4,275 | oh, this is going to be good! __________________ Sean 1995 Active | | | 04-24-2012, 12:15 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | damn, that is a big boys engine right there __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 04-24-2012, 12:48 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | I'm assuming this is illegal for the street. This a track or strip car? Very interested in seeing how this turns out! __________________ | | | 04-24-2012, 01:05 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | Very nice. __________________ No more ti. | | | 04-24-2012, 03:44 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 100 | Thanks guys, I have been waiting to do this for quite a while. I passed emissions in November so I have till November 2013 to run the car on the street. I am making this swap easily reversable with nothing on the frame or cradle modified for this to work. The only change made so far was relocating the abs pump forward and moving the cruise control unit where the abs pump was. | | | 04-24-2012, 05:12 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by teetime4one oh, this is going to be good! | Agreed. I will be getting some more things done as beer making season begins to slow a bit. In the meantime, I did do some brake, wheel and suspension changes! I started checking the basics and found the missfire was on cyl#3 due to a intake valve that was not moving. After pulling the intake I found that I had a flat cam lobe! Now I am a bit worried because who knows what else could be wrong. The oil pressure issue could get costly because these engines connot be built like a small block chevy, and someting tells me this is whats going on. Flipping the engine over I found way too much copper showing on some of the rod and main bearings so I guess I will be starting a rebuild from scratch.. | | | 06-25-2012, 05:31 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Low oil pressure sounds like it could be the cause of both issues. Bummer. If you're going to have to tear it completely apart (bearings), might as well take your time and do it all right. I'm still very much looking forward to seeing this thing run! | | | 07-04-2012, 02:22 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 100 | Update: After checking clearances on the main bearings I found out that the crank would have to be machined. The problem with this is it was already done once before and machining it to .020 under will not work for me so with that, a new crank was needed. Also the pistons were .060 over bore which also sucked because the walls will be to thin and I will not run some good boost with thin cylinder walls like that. It also turns out that the block is a 84-85 block when it was supposed to be a 86-87 block (the latter are stronger) so the expence of buying all new parts is growing quite a bit. There is a silver lining to this tale though, a good friend of mine sold me a complete 87 long block, ready to go for a price I couldnt pass up. So now I can get back to business of putting this engine back together. | | | 07-04-2012, 02:35 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | Glad to hear things are getting back on track! Looking forward to the continued progress. __________________ | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
