A new cat is about 500-600 dollars and should take an hour to do so thats another $100. I wouldn't have that shop do it. Whats wrong with the cat? There was a recall on them,i forgot what year ti's it was for but it was up to 100k miles. Mine was replaced in 03. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 07-21-2006, 08:20 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Tampa, FL Posts: 108 | If you don't have emissions, just get one of them SuperSprint resonator cat-deletes.. __________________ http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ata/bmwsig.jpg '95 Hellrot Red 318ti • 18x8" E46 M3 Chromes • Eagle F1 GS-D3 (225/35/18) • Cosmo Racing CAI • Sony CDX-M800 Headunit • MTX Thunder 8000 Subwoofer • Audiobahn A8000T Amp • MTX Sledgehammer 12" Ported Box | | | 07-21-2006, 08:22 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 236 | The recall was for '98s only. I also have a CEL in my '96, and have to replace the cat. I have found them as cheap as $330 on line, and I think I could replace it myself. Going to the dealer or a Midas type place is going to be >$900. | | | 07-21-2006, 08:48 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 45 | well im n cali so i gotta do emissions so ima just order it offline i found one for 360......1300 my black ass,the man always tryin to hold me down =) | | | 07-21-2006, 09:05 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 236 | BMP designs sells it for $330, and you can get a 10% discount if you are a member of the BMWCCA. | | | 07-21-2006, 09:29 PM | #7 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | BMW = Bring My Wallet __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 07-21-2006, 09:33 PM | #8 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | if they're replacing it with actual BMW cat, that's actually a good deal. the bmw cat will last a lot longer and work better than some $300 aftermarket cat. you may not even pass emissions with an aftermarket cat, others have found that out. all cats are not equal! __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 07-22-2006, 10:33 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: England, UK Posts: 1,288 | eurocarparts do an oem quality cat for only £150 $270 here __________________ 1995 BMW 316i Cosmos Black Mods: • Magnex Cat-Back Exhaust • Smoked Corner Lights + Repeators • M3 17" Wheels • De-Baffled Air Box • AC HandBrake Handle and Gear Knob • DEPO Euro Epsiloids + Predator Chronium Rings • Chrome Interior bits •IE Poly-Urethane RSFMs • Kenwood Power Series Audio • Powder Coated e36 325 Front Callipers • Sports Seats | | | 07-22-2006, 02:12 PM | #10 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | and it will last 10 years like the bmw original? You can still have them read. stormos; it probably has to do with our emissions standards. Either they can make them less efficient for your market (less costly to manufacture) or simply that the demand is much lower. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
