Question New Driveshaft Questions

So, the ti was looked at today and we decided that the source of our thumping/vibration is coming from the u joint/center bearing/driveshaft assembly. In this case we're looking at just replacing everything since the car is gonna be autocrossed. My question is if anybody knows of somewhere we can get a driveshaft with the u joints already attached? Our friend who looked at it (very BMW knowledgeable) said that he was fairly certain we could get such a set up but alas I can't find one. Any of you guys know something about it? Thanks!

Unless you know someone that can source the u-joints separately, that's pretty much all you can buy- the entire drive shaft assembly as a single unit, ready to bolt in. Prices range from $350-550, depending on where you source it from.

Since the u-joints are staked in, they are not user serviceable. You can get the center bearing, center bushing, and the collar nut separately, but not the u-joints, AFAIK.

Bimmerworld sells them, as does Driveshaft Specialists and Driveline Service of Portland.

The one I got (Driveshaft Specialist) was staked, as are most of the rebuilt BMW ones that I've heard of, but I've also heard that some rebuilders (such as Driveline Service) machine the yokes to accept a circlip so that the u-joints can be easily replaced.

Bimmerworld sells driveshafts that have replaceable u-joints, worth looking at if you're going to buy a brand new one.
