I've alternators, brakes/rotors, and radiators, is this out of my league? | | | 12-20-2006, 08:31 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i had my knock sensor replaced....i did tons of research, but there wasnt hardly any information on the net about 318ti m42 knock sensors.... know you have to remove the upper intake manifold on the m42....and upper and lower manifolds on m44...i still dont know exactly where they are...but i wasnt comfortable attacking this task since i didnt know a lot about it and got my local 'european performance' shop to replace it for me. __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 12-21-2006, 03:32 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | remember... to remove the two parts of the intake manifold you need to remove the fuel rail, fuel injectors, fuel hoses, wires, alot of pieces, i think is better take the car to the mechanic __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 12-21-2006, 04:28 AM | #7 | doesn't care about you. Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Denver, CO Posts: 3,925 | Knock sensors are on the back of the engine, directly under the valve cover. They are a royal pain to get to. Take it to a mechanic if you don't want to spend an entire weekend replacing them. FWIW...I had a knock sensor code last year, cleared it and it hasn't come back. Make sure it's a problem before you replace it. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 12-26-2006, 01:33 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Whitstable, England Posts: 41 | Yep there a right horible job, if you replace them yourself, make sure you torque them correctly they are very very easy to damage by over tightening. DustenT's right get a fault code read done see how many times is accurred and if its only logged a few time's and not a present fault. delete it. and have a merry christmas lol __________________ Live life and live it sideways unless you've got a 318 with ASC then just tun it of wohooo | | | 12-27-2006, 01:15 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | also, replace both of them now because you dont want to replace one and then find out right after you did the pain in the ass job you have to do it again when the other goes out common sense, i know....but just a quick reminder __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
