All it says is, "approx 225hp, balanced and blueprinted korman built". Looks like a stock motor thats been degreased and cleaned up to me. It doesn't even say if it's an m42 or m44, but it does say it's a '97 318ti motor. Why does it have an aluminum thermostat and oil filter housing then? Wonder if it's even streetable, or if it's race only. The other reason why I'd be suspicious is because the reserve is already met at only 1800 bucks. They can't possibly have that much money into it if they're willing to let it go for 1800 bucks. And the listing states that it just needs to be freshened up. WTF is that supposed to mean? Heck, I could dunk my m44 in a solvent tank and sell it as a race motor. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 06-02-2008, 10:47 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | good point jess im assuming it has the whole 9 yards port and polished heads different pistons and all that stuff. 225 HP is a lot for just the motor without a S/c or anything __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 06-02-2008, 10:54 PM | #6 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | It probably is legit, I'm just skeptical because it looks like a stock m42. I mean heck, the m42 has forged internals, it has the aluminum thermostat and oil filter housing etc etc. I just think that if they're going to advertise it as an m44 or '97 318ti race motor, they should atleast mention what size pistons are in there, compression ratio and other internal mods that have been done to it. "Korman Built" doesn't mean squat. It has a stock intake manifold for crying out loud! Does it come with a custom tuned ECU? What size fuel injectors is it running? 1800 bucks huh... __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 06-02-2008, 10:56 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | good point! __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 06-02-2008, 11:01 PM | #8 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | There seems to be a lot of scams directed towards the 318ti community lately. With the silver 318ti sport for sale that seems to be in 3 places at the same time, the guy selling '98 m3 coupe mirrors that are obviously replicas and won't fit our cars anyway, HuGo getting ripped off for a clutch on bf.c, and the list goes on. What about that one guy selling a DASC on ebay using pics of the POS KOperformance S/C? I just don't wanna see any of my fellow Ti'ers getting ripped off. Anyone remember "cnotesdip"? __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 06-02-2008, 11:10 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | hmm... maybe we should ask the seller some questions and see what they say or if they even respond?? it does sound too good to be true. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! You should ask pictures of the logbook before committing. That engine might well be a $1800 boat anchor. Ouch. | | | 06-03-2008, 12:42 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | You could always call the guys at Korman and ask them what their m42/44 IMSA motor was. I'd have to guess that they didn't make to many of those.. I can't even think of what IMSA group they would have been running with using that motor, but I have seen a complete tube chassis race car using an m42 before.. So it is possible... I could possibly be interested in something like that, so I emailed asking some questions.. If I get any good info I will post it back here... I wonder if cnotesdip is the same guy from the MBforums... nevermind.. I remember that Jess busted out that dudes snapfish account.. not the same guy.. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
