Okay, so I want to do a sub box in the trunk.. but I don't want to lose too much trunk space. I'm thinking of doing a custom box, maybe integrated into the side of the trunk... I'm not really sure yet though. I'm thinking 8" or 10", nothing huge.. just enough to get some decent lows. Has anyone here attempted this before? I'd love to see some examples of some of your custom boxes so I can get some ideas. Or if there's any already in production, that would be even better. | | | 03-15-2008, 08:19 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | look in my gallery __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 03-15-2008, 09:20 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Calgary/Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Posts: 379 | I have a single 10" box in my truck. It isn't custom or anything but it actually dosn't take up much room at all. If you went with a 8" it would take even less room up. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/DSC00456.jpg | | | 03-15-2008, 12:14 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: UK Posts: 197 | Here is an install from a while ago. The 8"s did not drop that low but all round pretty good. It didn't really need 4 of them, I ran with 2x8" for a while and they sounded just fine. At the moment I am changing to no sub and just have some Dynoaudio 3 way speakers up front. I like SQ and found that I don't really turn my music up that much when driving anyway. (clicky for bigger image) | That's freakin sweet. That exactly what I want to do. Of course, I'm not very good with FG, so it'll cost me a good amount to get that done. I think they were quite expensive. Sorry not currently for sale, maybe after I start/finish my dynoaudio install. I made need them to store an amp, I want to try and hide it up front behind the glove box, but I'm not sure if there is enough space for the amp and crossovers. Here are a couple of other options... IB (infinite baffle) install of the 4 ID 8"s I had it chained to the chassis as there were quite heavy and I didn't like the idea of that hitting me in the head in an accident. I ended up removing them as it was impractical and the IB didn't work too well as the Compact boot doesn't seal very well. This was the last iteration, I got a great price on an ID Max 12 so I changed this. It required a new box much larger than the ones for the ID 8"s I made this one from scratch. I never planned to make so many different installs but there was always some reason for it kept to changing. I hope that the Dyn install will be the last change for the Compact. | | | 03-15-2008, 07:45 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | i wanna also so the same exactly style box for my 12's but i guess i would only use one. i need cargo space for my tool baf for work. so the 2 12's wont be in this ti __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 03-16-2008, 06:01 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: North Carolina Posts: 157 | How much should it cost to get something done like Rich's? I have a huge box in the back that was there when I bought the car and have been wanting to reclaim the space in the hatch, but the last guy I talked to quoted me 400 per BOX! That seems ridiculously high, IMO. | | | 03-16-2008, 06:25 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Southern California - Orange county Posts: 978 | DONT PAY ANYONE!!!!!!1 go to home depot with $60 get 1. a box of 1-3/4" screws 2. 3/4 inch cabinet grade plywood 3. wood glue 4. 3-4 days of work and ur done pm me and i can call you and help you with the schematics and diagrams if you want __________________ 1995 318ti Cosmos Black Bilsteins w/ H&R Sport, Depos w/ angeleyes and HID 5K, 50% short throw kit, Custom fogged intake, AC schnitzer pedels w/ deadpedels, leather stickshift knob, vitesse tuning Ebreak boot w/ shift boot, X-Brace, 325/328 brake upgrade, Gray millpoint leather and cloth interior, custom computer multimedia system, and Style 5 BBS 17" rims, M3 Mirrors, CF Hood | | | 03-16-2008, 09:49 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: UK Posts: 197 | I wouldn't know how much it would cost to have this sort of stuff done.. It generally takes me several days spread over a couple of weeks to finish an install depending on how much is involved. I generally like to make sure my installs are as stealthy as possible, while allowing as much space as possible in the boot, seats up or down. This usually means it takes a little longer. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
