Here's why I ask. I was experiencing erratic idle at startup, then it would surge up to 1100rpms and most recently, at 1500rpms and stay there. I read a thread that said to disconnect the MAF to check if it was bad. It took a few starts, but sure enough the idle is at ~700rpms. Sure I have a CEL, but beyond that, it is safe to drive with the MAF disconnected? I plan on cleaning it before I dish out $ for a new one. Your thoughts please. Edit; whoops! Just remembered you have an m42 which uses an AFM instead of a MAF, so I don't have a spare but I'll still be happy to help you out. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 06-19-2008, 04:12 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Oxnard, CA - SoCal Posts: 258 | Sounds good - I'll give you a call later. | | | 06-19-2008, 04:22 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | Not having it connected will mess up your A/F ratio and your gas mileage will suck. | | | 06-19-2008, 04:28 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Oxnard, CA - SoCal Posts: 258 | Quote: Originally Posted by Viper3812 Not having it connected will mess up your A/F ratio and your gas mileage will suck. | that sucks! | | | 06-19-2008, 04:54 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | vroomcp. contact this guy, stimpy. he has a m42 and is parting out his ti since its been in an accident. here's the link: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22373 __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Replace it ASAP, or you'll just end up spending it on the extra gas. And im sure its not fantastic for the motor either for any long period of time. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 06-19-2008, 09:02 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Oxnard, CA - SoCal Posts: 258 | where's the best (cheapest) place to get one? | | | 06-19-2008, 09:08 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | probably Bavarian Auto Recyclers ( on ebay ) Most of their postings are "Best Offer" sales... ive got parts for less than half of their listed price that way... and they offer warranty on almost everything they sell. I bought 2 front 328 calipers/carriers with 6mo warranty for $50 + shipping __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 06-19-2008, 09:11 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | i took the liberty of looking one up for you... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-A...spagenameZWD1V Buy it now is $75... offer them $35-40 and I bet they will accept it.... Providing its the one you need anyways. Oh, and if your not a regular with Ebay... simply sign up, submit your offer and you can call their toll-free number with a credit card payment instead of using paypal or whatever. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 06-20-2008, 07:26 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Oxnard, CA - SoCal Posts: 258 | Thanks Philly. | | | 06-20-2008, 07:45 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2008 Location: Oxnard, CA - SoCal Posts: 258 | Newbie question here: Where exactly is the ICV on the M42?
