Hi... Sometimes (often) when searching for a part number on RealOEM or bmwfans there are no results. Is there an additional resource that has all parts? old vs. new part numbers? a cross reference list somewhere that exists? Not only have a I pulled a part directly from my vehicle and typed in the part number from the sticker (see below), but frequently when sourcing parts from ebay or other they also do not show up... am i doing something wrong? This part is in my car, recently removed and if you type this number in it does not appear anywhere, for any vehicle on realoem or bmwfans: "The specified part 34521164137 was not found." | | | 08-26-2008, 09:13 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | So with that part you have shown, what is on the sticker is probably the ATE part number. Realoem shows the BMW part number. It is very common from car manufacturers to have different numbers for a part than the manufacturer of the part. For instance, with certain bosch part numbers. You can often look up just the bosch part number and get the parts much cheaper than if you buy the BMW specific part. However, some things, like wiring for instance, might be different if you don't buy the BMW specific part. Bosch O2 sensor for instance. Although, the BMW part numbers for an ABS/ASC controller are very similar to that... Not sure why they would be different. Did you enter the correct year, body style, and geographic area for the car? Also, try putting the part number into google and see what you find. I found this- "Genuine BMW - #34521164137 - CONTROL UNIT ES#220152 Part has been superceeded by ES#63039" | | | 08-27-2008, 03:16 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: earth, USA Posts: 37 | Quote: Originally Posted by mohaughn So with that part you have shown, what is on the sticker is probably the ATE part number. For example, this one shows up (blue label): 34521164320 but the brown label doesn't. Perhaps it is the obsolete part numbers that don't show (the ones that have been "superseded"). I wish there was a cross reference somewhere but that ECS Tuning website seems to be a good start. Thanks! Funny note: when I google for the part number now this thread is the top return. | | | 08-27-2008, 07:13 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Try the Pelican Parts site. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 08-27-2008, 07:50 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | At first I thought it wasn't a BMW part number, but when I looked at how close that number is to what is listed for a 97 with ASC/ABS I knew it had to be superceded. That ECStuning was the only place that lists it as superceded, but not sure what their part number means. | | | 08-27-2008, 07:56 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: earth, USA Posts: 37 | Indeed Pelican lists it as superseded too. The ECS part number is the number that actually does show up in RealOEM (ends in 899). But I guess RealOEM and bmwfans does not list superseded parts, so Pelican or ECS it is. Good to know. Thanks for all the help everyone. | | | 12-05-2008, 03:50 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: earth, USA Posts: 37 | Hi folks I just wanted to update this thread that the BMWFans.info site now properly lists these parts as "superseded" and lists the old part numbers for reference. The RealOEM.com still does not have complete information. IMHO this makes the BMWFANS site a superior database for searching parts. I was able to find the brown one used, but it seems my problem was not the ABS controller at all, still trying to track it down (the problem, not the part, that is). The blue one doesn't fit my car of course. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
