Apart from the actuator/cables and switch, what else will be required to install cruise control on the Ti? I'm curious, is the control module built in with these cars or do I have to source the module along with the harness from the switch? __________________ | | | 08-27-2012, 12:29 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | You need the control module too. I installed cruise control from scratch, never got it to work though. I went to the dealer and he tried to code it, but he said the speed sensor wire from the gauge display wasn't getting to the control box. Just one wire got missed, too many wires under the dash to sort through, I gave up. I was able to retrofit OEM fog lights and OBC though. If and when I part out my car, I will sell the entire CC as a package. The harness I have was new from BMW. I chased the parts, both new and salvage, and had my indie mechanic do the installation. The whole thing cost about 1k. One bit of advice: don't use a salvage wiring harness. | | | 08-27-2012, 05:21 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: South Central, MN Posts: 1,065 | Thanks for the input guys __________________ | | | 08-27-2012, 01:11 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Detroit, MI Posts: 585 | You can install it your self pretty easily. Salvage everything except the wiring harness. All the parts are readily available from bimmer forums. You can basically grab parts from any e36 except for the actuator and bowden cable which need to be 4cylinder specific. __________________ | | | 04-11-2013, 03:15 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Location: Pelham, NY, USA Posts: 90 | Does an auto 1997 318 ti have all the plugs in harness needed for cruise control? | | | 04-12-2013, 04:47 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by jenkinskg Does an auto 1997 318 ti have all the plugs in harness needed for cruise control? | You have to install a wiring harness specifically for the cruise control. | | | 09-23-2013, 03:00 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Location: Pelham, NY, USA Posts: 90 | Trying to Retrofit cruise control I have all parts installed, pretty sure one or 2 wires are wrong Any help? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
