I'm wondering if anyone has tried changing the solenoid on the starter with the starter in the car. I have an intermittent start problem on my 95 manual trans ti. Occasionally when I turn the key I get a single click and then nothing. It has always managed to start, sometimes after 5 or 6 tries. When it turns over it turns strongly and starts right up. This began after the car was sitting for about three weeks. The starter was replaced about 8 years ago. I know it's a pain to change the starter. I've had the intake off before to do the cooling system, so I'll do it from the top, but I thought I might try just doing the solenoid and see if that fixes it, since the starter turns strong when it does engage. | | | 11-20-2015, 06:50 AM | #2 | Member Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: Chicago Posts: 82 | If i were you, i would just get it rebuilt or get a new starter. Go to Autozone! I've taken it out many times when i was messing with the M44 engine. It was pretty easy! Just whole intake off and the fuel rail. Make sure you don't lose those o-rings in the rail. Lost them couple time. __________________ 1998 318ti Alpine White M-Tech w/California Roof 1998 318ti Black 1996 328i 4dr Alpine White 1998 Audi A4 2.8L Quattro 1996 Eclipse GST & Supra MKIV Tail Lights Conversion #DIYassFCK | | | 11-20-2015, 03:41 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by mbradican I'm wondering if anyone has tried changing the solenoid on the starter with the starter in the car. If the solenoid is worn out the starter is most likely soon to give you problems. I would replace the complete starter if it was my car | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
