Recently, i started looking into rear brake options and nothing quite tickled my fancy, so i went off in nowhereville and created my own. As it sits, it has the E36 m3 front brake upgrade installed, front the non-vented front brake setup when i bought the car, and the stock non-vented rear setup. Purchased some brakes from a Mercedes CL600 a few years back and it just sat in the box every since...dual piston rear, quad piston front. Dusted them off and got to work. The rear calipers are all aluminum, dual pistoned, and have the mounting tabs built into the caliper and are also lighter than the ti rear caliper by itself. The mounting tab bolt spacing is obviously incorrect for the ti as well as its offset for the rotor, so a custom bracket had to be created as well a proper rotor and offset. I just so happened to do a set of brakes on a 128i and had a front rotor in my possession, which had a high hat area, just like the ti rear. I test fitted and the results are below. 128i Front rotor comparison to ti rear. 128i Rotor with Mercedes CL600 caliper The brake setup behind a 16" rim. The brake setup behind an 18" rim. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 Last edited by Bluebimma; 10-18-2012 at 06:41 PM. | | | 10-18-2012, 06:14 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-18-2012, 06:17 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-18-2012, 06:20 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-18-2012, 06:27 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-18-2012, 06:30 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-18-2012, 06:37 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | The sweep area is absolutely spot on, inside and out, leaving no rust lips and maximizing the pads ability to stop the rotor efficiently. As you can see in the pictures above, everything lines up, the bracket is aligned using the old mounting tabs, and is placed so the center of gravity has changed towards the center of the vehicle. The New brake line will be a hardline, form-fitted to the trailing arm assembled and reattached to the stock flex line. Since i have upgraded both front and rear brakes, pushing more fluid, the master cylinder has been replaced with a larger m3 cylinder and new lines ran for the abs box. The rear upgrade setup is 2mm larger in piston diameter than the M3/Mroadster, so the bias has been set nearly to stock m3, for now. The entire setup has only cost me 140$. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-04-2013, 03:54 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2013 Location: México Posts: 6 | Help Hi, my name is Richard, I'm from México. Cad later. Stock cl pads are my trial pads, going to upgrade this summer. Brake lines to caliper are OE Mercedes. Rand new hard lines since mine were rusted and needed new mount points __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-04-2013, 06:35 PM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Jun 2013 Location: México Posts: 6 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma Just steel. It's the same as the new bmws and audi's. Press the brake pedal while running or pump them up, press electric parking brake button which actuates the solenoid for line lock, thus locking the brakes in "on" mode. To release, press momentary switch and unlock brakes. Allows the removal of the parking brake handbrake, cables, rear backing plates, show assemblies, and all associated hardware. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 06-05-2013, 10:56 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bluebimma Yes, I used a staging kit and second valve for an electric parking brake.
