Can anybody provide a list of bear essentials required to 'rebuild' an M44 motor (prod. date 8/98)?? My motor is not in best of shapes (see my other / most recent posts/threads) and so I was debating a host of different possibilities... Anywhere from Ebay / Bav Eng Exc rebuild kits & used motors to Metrix Mechanics full bread race engines (pipe dream fantasies, mostly ) It seems, though, my best bet (I.E. only affordabe option) is to buy parts needed for rebuild - and as suggested on this forum - find a local mechanic to do the job. Sooooooo... again, can anyone provide a list of just 'bare bone essentials' (only the most neccessary, besides pistons) I would need to buy to do a rebuild? All, as always, is appreciated. | | | 05-18-2007, 07:58 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | on a M44, I'd use eagle rods over OE. Eagles are forged and 300$ a set or so IIRC. pistons, I'd go with JE. you can get them machined to what specs you need, and they aren't the shiet Maxsil Bav Engine trys to sell. | | | 05-18-2007, 07:59 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | also for F/I I would look at M.M. tri-ply head gasket. | | | 05-19-2007, 04:15 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: boston Posts: 142 | Nice to have a... 320d E46 CRANKSHAFT from the uk. stroke your motor almost to a 2.1L found one for 350 euros without shipping. __________________ HIOP TWINSCREW w/aftercooler water to air, 3.73 lsd, ported headdone, performence valve springs w/titanium retainersinstalled..nitrous kitinstalled fun fun X brace installed5th injector w/ piggyback controler, high flow cat | | | 05-19-2007, 02:27 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Ireland Posts: 382 | Quote: Originally Posted by jonchino Nice to have a... 320d E46 CRANKSHAFT from the uk. stroke your motor almost to a 2.1L found one for 350 euros without shipping. | any more info on this ? like whats involved and does the crank have to be modified ? __________________ ............................. ..........1999 318iS Coupe.......... IIRC I think the M50/M42 share valves...I know you can use M50 retainers/springs on the M42. Also looking at Stainless Steel Ferrea valves? Any good? Just say them shopping around for JE pistons. | | | 05-21-2007, 12:45 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | Holly Crap, That Is F-ing Awesome! I wonder if I could slap my DASC on a set up like that, without any further mods? VAC motorsports has just about any type of internal engine components that you could need. They'll also tell you what you need to do an overhaul. | | | 06-07-2007, 02:05 PM | #15 | Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Nebraska Posts: 39 | Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knew some other websites that sell rebuilt M42B18's or possibly some build M42's. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
