I am moving oversea The car: 1996 helrot 318ti (base?) Upgrade: - Bavauto springs and Bilstein sport shocks (installed last year) - Depo headlights - 17 inch rims from E46 - painted bumpers and sideskirt (active look) - Blue/black Sport seats and interior. Some people may say the interior is in pristine or mint condition. I would say just it's very very nice. - Fog lights (one missing) - More small upgraded here and there but I cant think of them now The good: - Newly installed engine with only ~50 k miles. Some of you may know the story behind this. I over heated the previous engine and bought this engine from Jess on this forum. The engine in his car was a replaced under BMW waranty in 2004. I have all the paper work. This was a great engine, but I took a step further and have it rebuilt. It wasn't a full rebuilt but my mechanic replaces everything that due to break. All seals and gasket were replaced (front and back seals, head cover gasket, oilpan gasket..ect). All plastic connectors were replaced. New belts, New pulleys, new belt tensioner. New water pump...etc.. Anything you can think of, except the internal parts since they are all good. this is a perfect running engine with low mileage. - Fluids are new - New clutch set. Only has less than 3000 miles on them - New Cat (magnaflow). I have the smog certificate in hand. - New window regulator was put in 3 months ago (passenger side) - Brand new control arm bushings, i just put them in yesterday for the sake of selling a good car (only had I known the job was a PITA lol...) The bad: - Car was in a minor front end accident last year (carfax shows but not a salvaged). The car was fixed by myself. However, the paint on the hood doesn't match the rest of the car. It's hellrot red but a little lighter. - Cracked windshield (just a week ago, damn..) ---> $200 lower on the price - Sterring wheel shakes when brake at high speed, 99% sure it is the warped rotors --> easy and inexpensive fix. I would love to sell a good car but just dont have time to do the brake. Needless to say, the car is in perfect mechanical condition. Interior is great. If you want to make it a show car then you may need to repaint it. Otherwise, it's still look good for a DD. Great gas mileage (30+ mpg). The mileage shows 195000 miles but that's not important since the engine has only ~50000 miles on it with brand new clutch, and the suspension has less than 20000 miles. Asking Price: $3500. I'll vouch for the engine having low miles and being in tip top shape. The fact that your mech replaced the seals and coolant parts should ensure a couple hundred thousand miles of worry free driving. Best of luck on the sale and your trip overseas. __________________ 4 MORE YEARS BABY!!! | | | 10-11-2008, 12:39 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Philadelphia Posts: 170 | what a steal, gl selling. | | | 10-11-2008, 02:04 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Southern California Posts: 225 | Thank you guys, I call this a "total loss" since the bill for the engine replacement was well above $3000. Yes, very sad to let the "ti" go. I will still be active on this forum. You guys are awesome. Hey Jess, good to see you here. Did your ti kick ass? That was a nice machine. __________________ Love my ti | | | 10-11-2008, 02:22 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Southern California Posts: 225 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmwpelican what a steal, gl selling. | Yes, it is a steal. Any details on the accident it's been? __________________ 97 Jet Black 318ti Sport. Not so stock anymore!.... I was thinking of a Z3 M coupe but gas price at the time was $5/gallon and I commute 90 miles per day. So I decided to fix it up especially when I found such a good engine from Jess. About the accident. It was really stupid; My car banged a Mazda 6 from behind at 10 mph on the 101. The Mazda was slightly scratched but my ti was messed up thanks to lower springs. Damaged parts included hood, front fender, radiator support, air intake hose, cracked headlights' taps. The car was still running ok. I then replaced them all with used BMW parts but did not paint since they are also hellrot. __________________ Love my ti | | | 10-11-2008, 04:41 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | $3000 for engine replacement? Jesus. They raped you hard. My dad could have probably done everything for less than a G with a motor. Anyway, good luck with the sale. I'm sure it will sell quick. | | | 10-11-2008, 07:22 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Southern California Posts: 225 | Well, the labor is $1200, the rest is for parts and the engine I bought myself. I could have done the job by myself but I just did not have time. You know, sitting in the office and make more than what I save from getting under the car is a better choice, I guess. __________________ Love my ti | | | 10-11-2008, 05:10 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by 96ti You know, sitting in the office and make more than what I save from getting under the car is a better choice, I guess. | Agreed. It was nice when I reached the point in my life where such a task became a fun, optional endeavor, rather than a necessity because I couldn't afford shop labor. Sounds like the brakes and windshield are the only major issues. If my truck sells before this does (which I'm sure this will go fast) I may be interested. We'll see, I have a couple guys coming to look at the truck this weekend. All the ti's I've seen for sale lately are in Cali or FL... At least I know a buddy of mine is up for flying and making a road trip. | | | 10-17-2008, 07:20 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Cute ti, looks clean! __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36.
