O.K. You've seen me lurking around here and absorbing information now it's time to ask the "proverbial question". Should I buy this ti for $3K? I does have 177K on the odometer, but drives and runs and shifts perfect, steering is tight, tires are good for now.... Would you???, if you were looking for a sweet work car (I live in my car, as a damage appraiser for independent Insurance companies) and I am tired of my '88 325 5speed stick in Oakland Berkeley traffic, that has 191xxx miles on it and the wheel bearings are getting noisey, using a little oil now andthe electrical has the usual glitches, etc. etc. and I love the look of the ti's This is a original paint alpine white '96 base, I think...with auto trans, power wind/Lcks/Mirrors, no sunroof and perfect grey cloth interior, looks bran new inside and out except for a few brush touchable marks here and there. The guy was asking $4500, so I guess it's hard to sell one with 177K ? He agreed to $3K about 15 minutes ago, in fact, he called me back... It really is the original little old ladys car, and I know I know, it should have different wheels, and a 5 spd to all you inthuious - sists. (sp?) Let me know, I already trust you guys after reading how much more you know than I do... I have worked on cars all my life as a retired Journyman Body and Fender repairman, and this car seems in great shape. By the way, I want a white one, which seems to be hard to find unless they want 5-7 grand for them (usually lower miles, though). | | | 10-31-2008, 10:19 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | its real clean and yea its a base model. im not expert on here just new like you to my ti... but it looks gud.. miles a little high but iv read bout these lastin 250-300,000.. and for 3grand its a fair price id say. __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 10-31-2008, 10:38 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Rodeo, CA Posts: 226 | Thanks, I am borrowing the money, ole lady thinks I'm nuts, and I just needed some backup from youse guys... Where the heck is Gilbert? I know one of the guys on this blogsite is in Vallejo, CA about 10 minutes from me... This is fun! I have been looking for this color in a '96 ti or newer for a year. They all wanted too much for my budget, or were completely trashed and too expensive to fix. Or a dark color which kills me getting in and out of my car all day long... Hell, I wear out seat belt retractors! Dark cars are just too hot for what I do for a living. Thanks again. | | | 10-31-2008, 10:43 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | its in az thats why you dont know bout it.. only cities ppl know in az are phoenix, some know tucson and flagstaff and thats it.. haha. is not like cali known all over. haha now we gettin off topic. if you like the car then get it, mines just sitting in the garage right now waiting for me to finish fixin her up and i love it. __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 10-31-2008, 11:08 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Mopho; I'm the guy from V-town... I was in Mesa, AZ in June of '06 and stopped by to see my niece who was working down there and going to school. We were on our way in my El Camino to Louisana to sell a antique Donercycle... Unfortunately, it was 114 degrees at 10 the next morning, and I had to go before my tires stuck to the asphalt.... | | | 11-01-2008, 12:39 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Gilbert Posts: 621 | yea lol thats az. __________________ *IF ITS FAST AND CHEAP, ITS NOT RELIABLE* *IF ITS CHEAP AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT FAST* *IF ITS FAST AND RELIABLE, ITS NOT CHEAP* | | | 11-01-2008, 03:01 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Wisconsin Posts: 1,895 | I don't think you can go wrong for 3 grand. I like my automatic, or slushbox as everyone here calls them. __________________ ... ʎɐqǝ uo pɹɐoqʎǝʞ ɐ ʎnq ı ǝɯıʇ ʇsɐן ǝɥʇ sı sıɥʇ | | | 11-01-2008, 03:10 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Not too much of a fan of autos but if it has full history and most things have been replaced, 3k is on the high side of the spectrum but not too bad of a price. I paid 3800 for my Active package ti with 170k and it had rims, supersprint exhaust, mint interior, great/excellent interior, and i bought it from a coworker. Go for it if its the car you want, just have it checked out by a bmw tech, perferably a dealership. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 11-01-2008, 06:38 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | How come it doesn't have ASC? Mine is a 97 base and it came with ASC. And is it me, or does it have a wood trim? The car looks very clean. And 3k is not bad at all! __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. Always wanted one, so we will go get it this morning. It has already passed the strict CA smog test, so I am not taking it to a mechanic. I'll get a service manual and check out stuff meself. What is ASC? There's a button on the left of the shifter that yu can feel something happen when you push it...when I test drove it... | | | 11-01-2008, 04:36 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Rodeo, CA Posts: 226 | Never mind ... for us ignorant ones, here's the discription for a '95 7 series, all that I could find on the ASC... Quote: "When, during cornering, the driver initiates a slight braking, a pulsed pressure buildup or a reduction of the braking pressure on the front and rear wheel which is on the inside during the cornering is performed by the actuators of an existing ABS/ASC control system. A slight braking is a brake operation which has the effect that an ABS control is initiated on one wheel at the most. In the case of this known system, cornering is recognized by reference to a specific lateral acceleration threshold, which is realistically determined from the driving speed and the signal of a steering angle sensor. Although, this known control system is capable of distinguishing between secure and unstable cornering, the use of a steering angle sensor for this purpose requires high expenditures and cost. Furthermore, when the brake pressure is reduced, the known system takes into account only the cornering recognition but not parameters which, in turn, may lead to other instabilities of the vehicle. It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved control system of the initially mentioned type, in which the conditions for reducing the brake pressure on at least one wheel which is on the inside during the cornering are adapted to different driving conditions." | | | 11-01-2008, 08:30 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Quote: Originally Posted by Mopho There's a button on the left of the shifter that yu can feel something happen when you push it...when I test drove it... | Erm, that's not ASC. You shouldn't feel anything if you turn off ASC, and the ASC light should turn on, on the dash. That sounds more like Overdrive which is weird. I've never heard of a ti with a button that turns off Overdrive. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36.
