Just make sure to add proper fluid (I never checked, should have been drained) and toss it in there! | | | 05-15-2010, 08:11 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: St. Louis, MO Posts: 201 | is it still for sale? __________________ | | | 05-15-2010, 03:03 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Montreal Posts: 38 | maybe this ur chance sokat | | | 05-15-2010, 06:46 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Earth Posts: 178 | sold already Sorry I should have updated or deleted, finally was sold. | | | 05-15-2010, 06:47 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Earth Posts: 178 | Still got a stock one, weld up a stock one! Now that your ClubSport LSD is sold, I'll go ahead and say that if anyone wants to upgrade to LSD, you might as well upgrade to a medium case diff while you're at it. Especially those who plan on doing motor swaps. So far every swap I've heard of where the owner used a small case diff has resulted in ring and pinion or spider gear failure. Simply put, the small case diffs cannot handle the added torque of a motor swap or FI application. If you plan on keeping your engine stock @ around 140hp, by all means buy a small case LSD. You won't need to swap your halfshafts, flanges, shim your ABS sensors or hammer your floorboard and you'll have the stock 3.45 ratio. My local pick-a-part sells e30 rear ends(medium case) for 50 bucks, but they usually only have 3.73's and 4.10's. The badass setup is e24 3.46 LSD w/e30 cover, e30 flanges and e30 halfshafts or... e28 3.25 LSD w/e30 cover, flanges and halfshafts. Just my .02 since this diff has already been sold | | | 05-15-2010, 09:34 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: St. Louis, MO Posts: 201 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Lol, not the same as LS. Just my .02 since this diff has already been sold | I've heard time and time again to upgrade to medium case if going the LSD route but the thought of having to "swap your halfshafts, flanges, shim your ABS sensors or hammer your floorboard" scares me. I use this car everyday and I doubt my sub-par mechanical skills will allow me to do all that in a day or even 2. The cheapest e30 LSD I've found for sale was around $300 including the half shafts. for around the same price, a direct swap-in small case LSD seems optimal since I don't see any significant power mods in my near future. __________________ | | | 05-15-2010, 11:33 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2010 Location: Earth Posts: 178 | Good info jess, that's pretty much why i decided to go medium case and sell this stock clubsport. Ended up going with a 6 cylinder swap so I knew I would need it... I only drove one welded up diff on a mini-pickup..on some stretched 13's or 14's in taiwan.. did understeer but I only went slow in a parking lot.. even after breaking the rear end loose..hard to keep it loose.. but it was a pickup truck.. 1300cc or less.. Sokat: if you're sure you aren't going to up the power much if at all, sounds like the clubsport LSD is for you. Keep your eyes peeled and one will pop up again.. You will love it.. I can't believe I've been living all those years without one.. | | | 12-19-2010, 11:58 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Fiji Posts: 169 | My spider gears lost 3 teeth but the car still runs just with a klank klank klank when no force is applied from the motor! Only when roling. I opened up the diff cover to take a look and now need to remove the spider gears out. Because the parts and service are limited in my country i have very few choices. Weld it or get the gears rebuilt at a local engineering firm. Any instructions on how to remove the internals of an 1997 318ti E36 diff (STOCK) | | | 12-19-2010, 12:14 PM | #12 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by anthony318ti My spider gears lost 3 teeth but the car still runs just with a klank klank klank when no force is applied from the motor! Best of luck finding what you need. I've never completely disassembled a BMW differential before, other than replacing the cover and output flanges. Member Bluebimma has though, shoot him a PM. | | | 12-19-2010, 10:08 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Fiji Posts: 169 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Anthony, I just checked the US Postal Service's website and you can have the gears shipped to you in a medium flat-rate box for just $43 USD. http://ircalc.usps.gov/MailServices....&p=0&o=1&mt=11 Unfortunately, I don't have a small case diff for sale, but perhaps another member has one they're willing to disassemble and send you the gears.
