I just PM'ed Doug about this but after reading through that whole thread, I imagine that he's going to get swamped by this again in short time. Not sure if I want a black anodized one, or I was thinking of spray painting a silver one red (similar to how Volvo hood release handles are). | | | 04-07-2011, 05:58 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | He is swamped. I sent him an email. I'm replacing the bowden cable at the same time. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-07-2011, 08:12 PM | #4 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Are the plastic OEM ones NLA? getbmwparts has them listed for $2.72 and pelican has them for $4.50. I have a spare release lever off of my M3, free if anyone needs one. I couldn't salvage the bowden cable though, it got pinched in the chassis from the accident. A machined aluminum lever would be kinda spiffy, but I'd be worried that the next weakest link would break since they may have designed the plastic lever to break for ease of repair. I'm probably over thinking things Price seems reasonable though, only 18 bucks for a part that gets used daily, well worth the peace of mind IMO | | | 04-07-2011, 08:22 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | They are not NLA. Every E36 uses the same part. I don't see them becoming NLA for a while. I feel like mine is bending. Yes, it is overkill. I'm going to assume it will fit the ti. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-07-2011, 08:56 PM | #6 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti They are not NLA. Overkill is good as long as the price is right, which in this case it is | | | 04-07-2011, 09:35 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I wonder if he could machine the gear for the CA tops? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 04-08-2011, 05:45 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I wonder if he could machine the gear for the CA tops? | Don't know what it looks like, but I"m sure anyone with a little machining experience could. IMO gears can't be all that hard to fab up once you have one done right. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. The black anodized are $23.00 each; we can do Paypal (whamac@msn.com is the address), check, or money order. I want my website lady to add these things to my site, but I haven't had the time to get all the info put together and sent off to her; too busy. -Doug | | | 04-09-2011, 01:10 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2009 Location: Miami, FL Posts: 874 | you know it be cool to see how they actually look | | | 04-09-2011, 03:06 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by trikzta you know it be cool to see how they actually look | | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
