Thanks, John S | This is exactly how it is done on the E36 - the pan is about a 2hr. job for my friend who is a BMW tech. Since my front cover has a small leak, we discussed doing my pan gasket too - I am going to do it sometime soon. As THAT318 says, you use the engine holder ( I have even used 2x4's and a ratchet strap in the old days) you don't really lift the engine much, just support it, then undo the front crossmember and you can just barely slide the pan out. No problems with alignment - I have done this same procedure on many other cars. | | | 08-04-2011, 07:54 AM | #198 | Member Join Date: Jun 2011 Location: VAN Posts: 71 | If the oil pan is not leaking (i.e. you do not need to change the gasket) then you do not need to remove the pan to tap it. You can PM me for instructions if you need. | | | 08-04-2011, 08:13 PM | #199 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by angus If the oil pan is not leaking (i.e. you do not need to change the gasket) then you do not need to remove the pan to tap it. John as always the great Gent! Can't wait to get the project going. I know it's been quite some time, but I was away in training since July until December. Now it's time to get this install going. I'll be taking lots of pictures and uploading as we go along. This is by far less money than a new/used DASC... Can't wait for Friday! __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... | | | 01-23-2012, 04:02 PM | #201 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | I'm looking forward to this!!! We should have the car up on stands by late Friday morning. I'm still working on the live feed of the install over stream. This will be on 318ti.org at the frontpage if I get it working correctly | | | 01-31-2012, 05:09 AM | #202 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Central Florida Posts: 678 | Alright, install is done!... But we need to weed out the bugs... Oil leaks, wastegate, and DME code. Drove the car home with no issues keeping the engine from boosting more than 5-6 lbs. Gotta say that the HKS BOV sounds SWEET!... For those that are looking for a quick Turbo install... this is not it! For the money it's great as long as you install it yourself, if you take it to a shop they'll charge you quite a bit. For the whole thing: "kit", odds and ends, welding, exhaust... you're looking at close to $2000 +/-. You would also need a reliable source of knowledge next to you or close by to make things easier to understand and problem solve. All in all it comes by at half the price of a DASC! Pics with descriptions to come... John it was a pleasure to get this done with you, you are a wealth of knowledge, I know we'll get the little kinks worked out! __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... | | | 01-31-2012, 05:15 AM | #203 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Yahoo!!! I would've loved to bring it up there for another photo session! The exhaust note went down as well, I kept the RD and the cat converter, so the little rumble it did went down... but I do get to hear the Turbo spool and the BOV! __________________ 2LT Rodriguez CA ARNG TURBO 96' Sport, Alaska Blue, Auto Custom JohnBoy Turbo, Midnight-Tunning Software, HKS BOV, e-Pod Gauge Pod, BavAuto Springs, Bilstein Sport, e30 3.73 LSD, Depo P36, Apexcone 55w HID, OEM Spoiler, M3 Lip, M3 Mesh Grill, Crossdrilled Rear Rotors, M3 Front Brakes, Sparco 3 point Harness, Euro M3 Wheel, K&N cone, Clear Corner/Sides/Tails, M3 Center Console & Arm-rest, M3 Red Cluster Needles, M3 Mirrors & Side Skirts, RD Exhaust, DS-1 wheels!... | | | 01-31-2012, 06:36 AM | #207 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | that is sick, it was awesome of John to do this too now you need to do something about that transmission | | | 01-31-2012, 01:25 PM | #208 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Amen^ get that Autotragic out of there.
