I cracked the cluster on my 96. I have a replacement cluster on the way that I'll use to swap the front half. But now that I think of it, maybe this is a good time to add chrome rings to the cluster. I see a bunch of kits on eBay. Any recommendations? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-29-2013, 05:55 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | I got these from DDM years ago; http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/Gauge-Rings Currently priced at $5.00++ __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Safe to assume that the picture is incorrect? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 09-29-2013, 06:34 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Yes, the picture appears to be for the e38 rings also listed... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. My 96 has a bunch of chrome from the previous owner. Should look good. Now would be the time since I need to pull the cluster. Thanks! __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-04-2013, 11:53 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Location: On Posts: 17 | Could you upload a picture of how the cluster looks with the chrome? | | | 10-05-2013, 01:55 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by David19 Could you upload a picture of how the cluster looks with the chrome? | I'll take a before and after. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-13-2013, 01:04 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | The before is my M3 cluster. I cracked the top left so used the front portion of my 95 cluster. Since I have chrome rings around the speaker and knobs I've always wanted to do this. Super easy to install. I did notice some flashing that could have been removed before installing them. Not a big deal. I never noticed that circle below 160. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-13-2013, 01:09 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Laguna Beach Posts: 357 | Really looks good with the chrome rings, wasn't aware that there would be such a big improvement. Notice you have the useless MPG meter in the lower part of the speedo. Woudl really like to replace it with a Oil Temp gauge like the E46 M3 has. Know any way to make that happen? Thanks | | | 10-13-2013, 01:14 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by 30yrMbr Really looks good with the chrome rings, wasn't aware that there would be such a big improvement. At least it is a working MPG. I think euro M3s had oil temp. Don't the Z Coupes have chrome rings? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-13-2013, 06:38 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I never noticed that circle below 160. | Ambient light sensor for inst. cluster/OBC display. I ordered 2 sets if I broken one since they are cheap. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-13-2013, 05:30 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti So the ti doesn't have one? | Mine doesn't, nor does my spare ti cluster. __________________ 1995 318ti Base - Cosmosschwarz/Sandgrau R.I.P. 1997 318ti Active - Alpinweiß III/Sandgrau 2013 328i Coupe - Le Mans Blau | | | 10-16-2013, 02:02 PM | #15 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Location: On Posts: 17 | I don't know how to feel about this. On one hand i like it, on the other hand I usually end up deleting every other chrome piece on my car | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
