Do you mean the coolant temp sensor? underneath in the intake manifold?

Yes the one that is in the head and is for the gauge and DME readings...

Sorry for the delayed responce.

Just a quick update,

I did a live reading using carsoft, which indicated that the air intake temp sensor and the coolant temp sensor are showing correct readings.

Just out of interest, what voltage range should the maf showing on the live reading?

Thanks

Interesting, something is too far out of whack and the computer cannot compensate .Idle mixture adaptation sounds like fuel trims..

Air assisted injection valves--You know this doesn't work. Say air is injected AFTER warmup (if your solenoid is stuck OPEN?) o2 sensors compensate for more air, your fuel trims be off now?

Did you try disconnecting the battery for some time? Just thinking it might clear the fuel trims.

Found this online " Additive mixture adaptation (Idle) Vehicle idle If the value is greater than 0.2 ms then there is an unmeterd air leak where not enough fuel is being supplied to the system or an erroneous signal from the air mass meter. The oxygen sensor signal measures a lean signal which causes the DME to compensate and make the mixture too rich. If the value is less than -0.2ms then there is an air restriction, and too much fuel is being supplied to the system or an erroneous signal from the air mass meter. The oxygen sensor signal measures a rich signal which causes the DME to compensate for the problem by making the mixture too lean. Once a certain threshold (ms) value is exceeded the system can no longer offset the problem and a fault is logged. "

Adaption value error with a stock code on your DME meaning your not running a modified performance code is either a bad O2, stuck secondary airpump solinoid or vacuum leak. Can also be a exhaust leak before the O2 sensor

Most likely a vacuum leak

still having the problems, it also seems to be getting worse.

The weather hasn't been great here for the last 3 months so I am struggling to get anything done to the car!

Lots of good info from the guys on here so thanks to all for that.

I think the first thing I really need to do is to remove the intake manifold and check all the vacuum hoses underneath.

Then if that doesn't find the problem I will dig deeper and look at the sensors.

keep me updated if you have any luck with yours

Sorry if this question sounds amateur, but what is the secondary airpump solenoid?

Air injection solenoid is #10 in this diagam.. http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3...l_vacuum_tube/ Definately check the hoses like others mentioned, airpump solenoid is not likely the more I think about it.

I will have to check this, also what is part 15, I have never seen this on my car when working on it?

The crankase vent valve on the back of the intake is a problem. Black round cylinder with hoses. Usually if they are bad they will suck air from the bottom (unmetered air). You can reach underneath with the car running and feel the leak, or spray carb cleaner and the idle will increase. That or air boots is usually the mixture faults.

very good info but its definitely not the crank case vent valve as I replaced it 4 months ago
