The grey I painted is starting to work for me. I see how it looks after the windows get a medium tint in the next few weeks. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! You appear to have produced a nice, uniform result. What do you think of the Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric product after using it? My shelf is identified by BMW as "dark grey", but in its faded condition, it actually has a bluish-grey appearance. I've considered doing something to restore it, and now that I've seen your result I will see if Dupli-Color has an appropriate shade of grey. | | | 03-21-2012, 02:27 PM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Broomfield,Colorado Posts: 664 | I have used Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric product before on my cargo shelf and it turned out wonderful, I would have to say it looks brand new. I painted mine black | | | 03-21-2012, 04:01 PM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | i'm happy with the result. I've used it in the past and it turns out well and is reasonable durable. I've painted higher contact spots like the center console armreat on my Bronco and it held up for years until I sold the truck. For the ti shelf, it took two cans, one for each side. I stayed off about 8"-10" in continious strokes off edge to off edge. I have no issue with the paint or texture, it may be a little lighter than I ultimately want. I'm taking care of other car items then go back and see how I like it. BTW, the first photo is of the top before and the bottom is after. I should take another after shot under the same lighting conditions to get a good comparison shot. Cheers! __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Tischer would lilely be cheaper after U.K. shipping, but just in case anyone's interested... I typically ask the sellers if they are willing to ship to the US and if so, how much to my zipcode. A couple of times, I have been plesantly supprized at the cost for a rarer part. Most times, it's expensive... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E36-3-...item3a71d033ac Cheers! __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! This is the issue that I'm having with mine- I can't, in good conscience, sell mine to someone when, after shipping is factored in, they can just buy a brand new one for about $20-30 more. | | | 04-14-2012, 10:18 PM | #25 | Member Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: Chicago Posts: 39 | I finally went ahead and ordered one from Tischer | | | 04-30-2012, 09:38 PM | #26 | Member Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: Chicago Posts: 39 | My Package Tray arrived today from Tischer and I'm very pleased. Posts: 3,156 | I repainted the (top only) of mine with standard semi-gloss black Rust-Oleum. Took about a week (thin coat, dry, thin coat dry overnight, three times for six dry coats) and it looks as good as new. I pulled the cord ends out of the tray, back masked the edges and went for it. It really look just like a new one. Note (to to those painting them) that the underside has a different 'sheen' to the material than the top does. I would not paint it unless I had to. And to answer the earlier question: black interiors have a black tray that typically fades to purple (as mine did) in a few years. | | | 04-30-2012, 11:47 PM | #28 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Quote: Originally Posted by zoner UPS quoted me $65 to ship one across the country- surely it would be substantially more to ship one across the pond. | Another shipping option to consider. I just purchased some large, light parts from a member. $90 to ship the parts UPS. I called Greyhound express shipping. $50 and some change. In this case, they are hard to find parts, so it was worth the shipping cost as opposed to purchasing new. It might work in a pinch... __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Mine unfortunately has many scratch marks from what I would guess the PO's dog taking naps up there. The new paint didn't cover those up. | | | 05-23-2012, 09:25 PM | #30 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2012 Location: Whittier Posts: 8 | Does anyone know where I could get new ledges that actually hold the hatch cover?
