Well, I'm throwing in the towel and asking a shop to look into it. Gonna get it towed sometime this week and I'm bracing for the big bill. Good thing I've been keeping a decent sized rainy-day fund (although that was supposed to go towards an unexpected clutch job!)

yep, i ended up taking mine to the dealer after finding out it was the EWS. no reason not to have it on that one yet.

Let me know what the diagnosis is!

EDIT:
What were you doing prior to the car not starting?

Plastic cooling pipe on the side of the engine. Sent out my injectors to be cleaned at the same time. I'm positive I shorted something when I wasn't careful.

BTW, the EWS bypass didn't work in my case.

The cooling Manifold?

Mine shorted as well, when i did my full cooling system overhaul.

Sorry to hear the bypass didn't work =( It may be due to the age. shrug.
