the profile is exactly the same as our delete plates, so you won't lose legroom. only if you have stuff sticking out. in fact, it looks like you'd gain 1/2" of legroom

i'd like to have one too, but i'd definitely mod it w/ a door.

A couple of guesses....

Is the part in question #18?

Something about the description for part #14 on that diagram makes me think that if you have air conditioning, you won't have the cubby/pocket.

Mallard, does your car have air conditioning? I notice that you've got one switch where I have 2 (one that chooses to recirculate the air inside the car or to use outside air, and another that turns on the air conditioner).

Then again.... I just noticed that JeroenB3's car has the same switches that mine does, so maybe I'm way off with the A/C vs. storage bin theory.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's a US safety issue that requires some sort of knee protection under there. I don't recall what's under there on the passenger side, but isn't there some sort of "chunk of stuff" on the driver's side?

i looked around the 316i parts catalogue a little for this part. i didn't find anything that would be an insert for #18... cant really say from the diagram if the insert is in there.

never knew about this 'ti trailer' tho. interesting stuff.

@roadresh, its not that part I think

I have AC and the compartment, in Europe every Compact has this compartment.
Maybe in America it is filled with foam, as protection?

You need this picture, number 17:

Mallard i wouldnt worry so much about ur glove box lid not being straight... uv got bigger issues.... Some buggers moved ur steering wheel to the wrong side of ur car!!!
As for protecton I cant see that being the issue..If anything I would have thought euro laws were stricter then US safety laws?? And like its already been said its not linked to AC..all euro cars have it fitted U dont have an option of it not being there!
Still waiting for an US pic though..come on guys!!

Hey Guy's,

Where are the pictures of the US Glovebox compartment??

I have had a vacation, but stayed at home...

Time to ad some mod's at the Compact!!

Umnitza Predator Chromium 3000K
Pilot 6000K xenon
Complete black roof
Automatic dimming rear view mirror
Readinglights in the back

Xenon isn't just nice, it works to!!
