Did Alumium, Stainless and steel. Added a 1/4 piece to the oil pan so I can tap a 3/4 pipe thread for turbo oil return, Welded the stainless flange on the OBX down pipe, welded a flange on steel 3" pipe swedged to fit over my 3" exhaust so when I connect the exhaust in my driveway I can pop it together with the small mig I have in the garage. After I tap the oil return hole in the oil pan it's time to put it together and drop it in the car. I'm on vacation all next week so I can really get some work done and finish the car a few days early Oil Pan ~ added 1/4 aluminum plate Down pipe ~ Stainless Exhaust swedge flange connection to down pipe | | | 07-14-2009, 03:21 AM | #124 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Troy, MI Posts: 20 | why the fans behind the intercooler? nice build so far | | | 07-14-2009, 03:27 AM | #125 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by bmw buddy why the fans behind the intercooler? nice build so far | I live in Florida and wanted the maximum cooling for A/C in stop and go traffic. I'm new to turbo's is that a no no? | i just haven't seen it done before and was curious why you decided to do it, i think it might be overkill though what was the quality of the welds on the mani? if you're new to turbo's, check out this guys build http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1216803 i've seen a few unreal build threads on bimmerforums and there's tons of FI knowledge there BUT check out the parked threads and do a search before asking questions since there's little tolerance for questions before searching | | | 07-14-2009, 05:09 AM | #129 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by b.u.ti-ful I really like this thread, but the huge photos kind of bugger up my browser. Are you using a 120v? Flux or gas? I'm in the market for a small mig welder, I don't have a 220v outlet though so I'll probably get a 110/120v. My portable oxy-acetylene rig just isn't practical for the widebody project I have lined up. Anyway, those are some good looking welds, nice work! | | | 07-14-2009, 05:24 AM | #134 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Nice welds on those flanges John. I never do stainless on anything but TIG & 99% of aluminum on TIG. If you have a dryer in your garage you might have a 220v. 110v flux core cheep $99 harbor freight is good for most steel around the house... | | | 07-14-2009, 05:24 AM | #135 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Central NJ Posts: 2,440 | Jess-- fly to NJ and help me do all of the work I wish I knew how to do I should be out in the OC SOMETIME within the year (hopefully around Nov? who knows). If you don't somehow meet up then (I even met Hugo when I was out there once), I'll be pissed! Also, I'm getting ready to FINALLY wrap my headers, but I lost my metal zip ties. Where can I get more, and how many will I need? PS. John, sorry for taking up your thread I kept hitting redline in 1st gear just barely at the last AutoX... if only I could revv to 7100 | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
