I've got around 76k miles on my 98 Sport and the front shocks are getting really soft. Its starting to feel like I'm riding in my dads Avalon. So what are the popular shock upgrades for the TI? My rears seem OK, should I replace those at the same time or should I wait for them to wear alittle more? I'm on a pretty tight budget and I don't even know where to begin with the upgrades.. any suggestions? __________________ 98 318ti, 99 Miata, 90 Miata | | | 08-08-2006, 05:33 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Thousand Oaks, California Posts: 343 | Well check on Bav auto, it all depends on what your looking for, the HDs are the easiest to buy because you dont have to change the springs becuase it doesnt change the ride hieght. Sports will lower your car and youll need springs too. __________________ 1993 325is Hellrot Tribute to: 97 318ti Montreal Blue R.I.P 96 318ti Schwartz II | | | 08-08-2006, 05:36 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Posts: 16 | How do either of these compare to the stock Sport suspension? __________________ 98 318ti, 99 Miata, 90 Miata | | | 08-08-2006, 05:45 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Have you searched and found Boge, Bilstein and Koni? That will be 99% of all the upgrade experience on this board. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-08-2006, 07:58 PM | #5 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Bonez.. I like the HDs w/ Mtech Springs, but I am going to try the Koni next just to see. | | | 08-08-2006, 09:36 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | If you look in BMP Design, this is probably the best deal anywhere: http://www.bmpdesign.com/product-exe...earch_model/52 __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 08-08-2006, 09:44 PM | #8 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by weezer | Not Exactly. Koni yellow sport adjustables start where the stock sport dampers end. I think the bilstein HD's will be close to stock as well. A good place to start is Bavauto as they sell all of those options I believe and have good phone sales people. Isn't there another brand called KYC that are cheaper? Maybe it's KFC? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 08-09-2006, 05:12 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | KYB and Tokico(Sp) make Ti Kit IIRC. Used Tokico on a civic w/ Neuspeeds...was not impressed. but they are cheap for new sport shocks. | | | 08-09-2006, 06:14 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: la jolla, ca Posts: 222 | Your rears go before your fronts. I'm going E36 M3 bilstein struts and bilstein sports in the rear pretty soon. I will be using Ground Control custom springs (450/550). I will re-valve the rear shocks probably about 1/5 stiffer. This is with the stock 225/50/16 setup. Don't forget new strut mounts, rear shocks mounts (I'm using the Ground Control version) and I will be doing bushings all around. | | | 08-09-2006, 02:42 PM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Posts: 16 | If Im just replacing the struts (perhaps Bilstein HDs), do I need to replace anything else? __________________ 98 318ti, 99 Miata, 90 Miata | | | 08-09-2006, 02:47 PM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Posts: 16 | By the way, has anyone heard of Sachs? I was looking at importecparts.com, which ive had good experience buying parts from and they offered Sachs as replacements for the M-Tekchnic suspension. Is that what comes on the 98 Sports? __________________ 98 318ti, 99 Miata, 90 Miata | | | 08-09-2006, 03:17 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | I believe Sachs Boge is the same company and yes those are the direct replacements. You'll want e46 M3 rear shock mounts regardless. Quote: Originally Posted by bonez By the way, has anyone heard of Sachs?
