My brake lights are out; fuse is fine, all the bulbs are good. I looked for a related thread, but could not find one. Has anyone experienced this problem. Need help fast. Are you running the correct euro oval-contact bulbs? If you have OBC, is that working too (they are on the same fuse)? The switch is located directly above the brake pedal. Get a flashlight, tip the seat back and lay backward with your head under the dash to get a good view. Sometimes you need to readjust or install a small spacer to make it work (ask me how I know!). __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | 07-06-2006, 08:12 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | how do you know!?!?!?! __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 07-06-2006, 08:37 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Cincinnati Posts: 890 | Geez, don't encourage him!! __________________ SOLD!!! 1999 332ti //M Sport Titanium Silver M3 S52 3.2 I-6 Engine, M3 Clutch w/ ti Getrag Trans, Z3 3.15 LSD medium case diff and half shafts, OEM Hatch Spoiler, Eurosport HP Underdrive Pulleys, FDM, 17" DS1 rims, M3 Front Struts & Springs, M3 Instrument Cluster, 3-spoke //M steering wheel with tri-color stitching, SSK, CCFL Angels in Depo projectors with 5k HIDs | | | 07-06-2006, 10:07 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti switch? | That would be my favorite suspect as well. Even though they are reasonably heavy and bifurcated, the contacts eventually fail. There is a guy over at bimmerforums who seems to replace his switch every couple years. I am working on a longer term solution. | | | 07-06-2006, 10:32 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | I will check the switch under the dash. I've checked all the bulbs they "seem" fine, the fuse is fine. But I will also check the bulb sockets. Thanks all........I will still welcome some more suggestions and recommendations. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 07-08-2006, 10:39 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | 2 or 4 pin switch? The four-pin switch is for cars with check control. | | | 07-09-2006, 12:20 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | What is check control anyway? It was an option on all the E36s except the Z3 and the compact (e.g. your 318ti). | | | 07-09-2006, 01:10 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | Awesome, thanks! __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 07-09-2006, 01:14 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | You bet. I have a feeling it is temporary, so I will still purchase the switch. However, this was a relatively simple and cheap repair. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
