I am about to begin my 318ti project and have built myself a set of wooden jack stands after reading this:
http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/multi/wood-block.htm I think I have got the basic elements of what was being described but used different combination of wood - used 3 sheets of 17 millimeter ply and 100x100 wood.
These are added safety - I will also be using metal jack stands at the usual points.
