Default S52 swap with code P0446

The car runs great other than a rough idle for about 30 seconds on a cold start and throwing a P0446 code every now and then. I've replaced the carbon canister valve and the other fuel valve located on the left front shock tower. Is this just one of those codes that have to be programmed out of the DME? Or is there something else to do? I've seen posts of regular e36 people changing the gas cap but I wanted to make sure this is a solvable issue before I throw any more parts at it.

I would think there is something wrong with your car. Mine does not throw any codes at all. Did you swap out the valves with used parts or did you replace with new parts?

I replaced them both with new parts and have changed the gas cap since. Looks like the charcoal canister is the next step if this isn't a software issue.

Hey Butterson!

Thanks again for the LSD, still sitting not installed, but I have the best of intentions!

I know nothing about these motors. Love to speculate though. Is there an EGR valve on there? (could be one of the valves you mentioned replacing already) I also don't know if there is SAP, but maybe inspect that since it is a startup deal.

Good luck. Good to see you on here, but not for this.

I am pretty sure that you have to clear the code once the problem is fixed. It doesn't go away by itself. Anyone know for sure?

I want to say I've had that code clear itself before.

BRADESTAR - this is separate from the SAP codes which will usually throw a P0412 if anything there is bad. I just fixed this with a SAP sim because I wasn't sure if having it written out of the code would cause problems when emissions goes to read the DME.
